Closing the Opportunity Gap for Newton Students

  • Achievement Gaps: Persistent gaps in ELA, Math, and Science highlight the need for targeted support in Newton Public Schools.

  • ELA Underperformance: Lower scores for African American/Black (52%) and Hispanic/Latinx (51%) students in Grade 6, compared to White students (77%). Gaps continue into higher grades.

  • Math Disparities: Lower average scores for African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and low-income students

  • Writing Challenges: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and low-income students score lower than peers in writing
